Madrid Birth Story Library
Updated: Apr 9, 2021

Birth stories are powerful. Through telling our birth stories, women are able to process the birth, share the experience with others, and convey the meaning each birth had to them.
Sharing birth stories gives us a first-person glimpse into how hospitals work, how birth can unfold, and the sheer variety of ways a baby can join us earthside.
For those reasons, I've decided to create the Madrid Birth Story Library - a place where I will share birth stories from women who have given birth in Madrid. I will do this through a blog series right here!
I did not attend any of these births as a doula and this exercise of sharing birth stories is meant to be one of transparency, honesty, and rawness. Each story will be posted uncut, unedited, and without commentary. This means some may be short and others long. Some may be emotional and others provide the facts without commentary. Each story will be treasured and respected in this space.
My goal in sharing these is to give women first-hand stories because as expats we may not have an immediate connection to hospitals or birth here in Spain. Some new moms arrive mere months before giving birth and scramble to talk to as many people as they can about their experience at such and such hospital. Here I will be able to provide some information to women looking for these stories by sending them to this blog series.
All stories will be valued and appreciated for what they are: a woman's personal experience of giving birth. She knows how she felt and her telling of her story is 100% her own. None of us can or should comment giving advice or criticizing any moment of the story - these stories are meant to spread information and allow women to tell their stories in a safe space.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to growing what I've come to think of as the Madrid Birth Story Library, resource for expecting parents, on this blog.
If you'd like to share your story please do so by filling out this Google Doc.
